Phrasal Verbs - 'look'

Here are the phrasal verbs using the verb 'look'.

1. look after yourself/ somebody/ something
Meaning: to be responsible for or to take care of somebody/something

2. look ahead (to something)
Meaning: to think about what is going to happen in the future

3. look around
Meaning: to turn your head so that you can see/ to visit a place or building

4. look at something
Meaning: to examine something closely/ to think about/ to consider something in a particular way

5. look back (on something)
Meaning: to think about something in your past

6. look down (on something)
Meaning: to think that you are better than someone else

7. look for something
Meaning: to hope or expect for something

8. look forward to something
Meaning: to be thinking with pleasure about something that is going to happen

9. look in (on somebody)
Meaning: to make a short visit to a place

10. look into something
Meaning: to examine/investigate something

11. look on
Meaning: to watch something without becoming involved in it yourself

12. look out
Meaning: to warn somebody to be careful

13. look out (for somebody or something)
Meaning: to try to avoid something bad happening/ to keep trying to find or meet somebody/ to think of somebody's/ your own advantage/ to search for something from among your possessions

14. look something over
Meaning: to examine something of its qualities

15. look through somebody
Meaning: to ignore somebody by pretending not to see them

16. look through something
Meaning: to examine or read something quickly

17. look up (of business or situation)
Meaning: to become better

18. look up (from something)
Meaning: to raise your eyes when you are looking down at something

19. look somebody up
Meaning: to visit or contact somebody especially when you not have seen them for a long time

20. look something up
Meaning: to look for information in a dictionary or reference book

21. look up to somebody
Meaning: to respect somebody
